Together in Purpose. Every Gift in Action. Every Life Uplifted.

Who We Are

Chat N Chew (CNC) is a faith-based, all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering single parents (and their children) who are starting over and rebuilding their lives after domestic violence and food insecurity. Led by a founder with firsthand experience in these challenges, and supported by volunteers who’ve walked similar paths, we bring both empathy and expertise to everything we do. We don’t offer handouts—but we do offer a helping hand they can reach for when they feel uncertain, scared, or simply alone. While we connect families to resources, the journey forward is theirs. We walk alongside them with steady guidance, creating space for growth at their own pace. Many of us have been there too, which is why we lead with compassion, not judgment.

Mission Statement

At Chat N Chew, (CNC), we walk alongside single parents who are rebuilding their lives after surviving domestic violence. We don’t just offer food—we offer family. We create a supportive community where families are guided, encouraged, and surrounded with lasting relationships. Many of these relationships are grounded in shared experiences—because we've been there, we know how to walk with others toward healing and hope. We are the family to the widow, the friend to the friendless, and a safe harbor for those finding their strength again. At CNC, healing begins with connection.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to create a network of transitional homes for homeless single parents and their children—a place of healing, rebuilding, and belonging. We clothe families in dignity through our clothing outreach, while our resale boutique of previously loved items funds the very programs that transform lives. Every item given and every item sold becomes part of a story of redemption, relationship, and restoration—so families don’t just survive, they thrive!

REALITY CHECK

  • In 2023, the poverty rate for single mothers was around 28%, highlighting the significant economic challenges faced by many single-parent households. (Center for American Progress)

  • Nearly 10 million women and men in the U.S. experience domestic violence annually. (The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV))

  • On average, about 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. (The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV))

  •  Approximately 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men will experience severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. (The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV))

  • Most domestic violence incidents are not reported to the police. Only about 20% of rapes/sexual assaults, 25% of physical assaults, and 50% of stalking incidents are reported.

  • Intimate partner violence costs the U.S. over $8 billion annually in medical and mental health care services. (The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV))

While precise figures on single parents in poverty due to domestic violence are difficult to obtain, the high poverty rate among single mothers (around 28% in 2023) coupled with the widespread prevalence of domestic violence (affecting millions annually) strongly indicates a significant overlap. Domestic violence is a key factor that can lead to financial instability and poverty for single parents.
